Snacks are an essential part of my daily routine. I personally need them to combat the hunger taking over, especially during the sugar slump between 3-4pm. Certain snacks are easy to make and quick to hand.
Whereas a couple below will need some pre planning and prep, and certainly worth it as they taste simply delicious. For the majority of the time I need a snack in between meals to help keep my blood sugar levels balanced. For yourself, perhaps you need them when you have forgot to have breakfast, are running late for work or need something inside your belly to last until dinner . Well ladies and gents here are my top 5 snacks that are picked because they satisfy hunger for longer, and simply make for a quick fix.
- Rice cakes topped with avocado, hummus and cayenne pepper
Take two rice cakes, slice up half an avocado and divide the avocado between the two rice cakes. Spread the avocado on top of them, and then place a tablespoon of hummus on top of the avocado, spread and sprinkle some cayenne pepper – simply delish!
- An apple & a handful of almonds
- Berries and yoghurt
Choose your berries wisely! A good mix of antioxidant berries such as blueberries, Blackberries and raspberries will do the trick. Add to this healthy mix a few large scoops of full fat Greek unsweetened yoghurt and enjoy!
- Blueberry Almond Butter Energy Bites
These bites are great for an on-the-go snack, or even for a ‘quick-fix’ breakfast when one is running late for work. The only small down side to this delicious healthy snack, is that you will need to make them in advance, if you have not got a few minutes to spare to make and the time to ‘chill’ them. Packed with oats, dried blueberries, chia seeds, honey and almond butter these bites are guaranteed to satisfy any hunger pangs. The Ingredients are as follows:
- 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
- 1/4 cups roughly chopped almonds
- 1/2 cup dried blueberries
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1/2 cup almond butter
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
To make these bites could not be easier. In a bowl combine the oats, almonds, blueberries and chia seeds. Put to one side. In a bowl, that’s is microwaveable, place the almond butter and honey. Microwave for no more than 20 seconds or until the mixture is able to be stirred. Add the almond extract. Stir again. Pour the almond butter mix over the oat mixture and keep stirring to combine until it forms together. Place the bowl to chill in the refrigerator for 20-25 minutes, so that the mixture can be shaped into balls.
- Homemade Trail Mix
Combine a mix of nuts, seeds, toasted coconut and dark chocolate to create a healthy energy boosting mix. This snack is awesome for anytime you find yourself in a rush, need an on-the-go snack or simply find yourself in need of a real quick energy boost. I got the best recipe from Kristine Kitchen blog. Give it a go, it will not disappoint!
