Can massage help your mental health? Well in short, yes it can. The body is so intricate and beautifully made, that it reminds me of a Rubik’s cube. You need to have all the colours lined up on the right side for it to be in ‘balance’. With this in mind, I can make the link between physical, mental, and emotional imbalances within my clients, and can form a plan to get all three in balance.
When I perform my bespoke massage on a client I am, at the same time, helping to lower the levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, within the body. Cortisol, when out of balance, is key to depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorder symptoms. I work to restore its balance during a massage and if I deem it necessary I will integrate other techniques to aid the massage. For example, if anxiety levels are going through the roof, I shall integrate some nerve reflexology on the feet of my client. I may even add on some facial and myofascial work on the scalp of the sufferer to help recover their cortisol levels.
I love to work both with knowledge and intuition to achieve my proven results. Working on the facial area will activate the person’s sympathetic nervous system to inevitably improves their mood, whilst reducing both their stress and anxiety levels.
Did you know that massage reduces the levels of cytokines within the body?
Cytokines are molecules that can either increase or reduce inflammation. So massage for mental health, can help the body to balance itself internally and to put the body back into a state of homeostasis or balance. In doing so this has a knock-on effect on our mental health. It calms the mind which will then increase one’s mental alertness to have clarity in their thinking.
So when you are feeling low and/or out of sorts for you, just remember that a massage really can benefit you; to help you to re-establish your ‘balance’ on so many levels!
I am here for you all, to guide and to educate, on how to heal yourself naturally from the inside out.
